Fire Department: Public Education

Deputy Chief Jeff Fell instructing city employees how to do CPR.  The Town of Silver City is one of a very few municipalities in the country that has all its city employees CPR certified.

The Silver City Fire Department services the public and the community in more ways than only responding to emergencies. Part of our program is educating the public.  The department takes an active approach to preventing fires and accidents before they occur through fire and accident prevention. These include talks, classes, radio announcements, school presentations, safety classes, fire extinguisher classes, and fire drills.  These programs help prevent many fires or accidents or assist individuals when a real emergency exists.   For any further information on any of these activities please contact station one at (575)-538-2591.

During the month of October, the department celebrates Fire Prevention Week.  Throughout an open house week in both Fire Stations we show fire safety films, give rides to children, and handout fire prevention literature.  An outreach program attends the areas schools during this week in order to bring the information to the children unable to make it to the open house.

The Silver City Fire Department offers CPR and First Aid Training to the public as well.  We teach the curriculum offered by the American Heart Association and our classes come through the Training Center at Gila Regional Medical Center.   The cost of an 8 hour Heartsaver CPR/1st Aid course is $40.00 and the certification is current for a 2 year time period.  Courses are scheduled on weekdays on an as-needed basis for up to 10 students.  You can call Deputy Chief Jeff Fell at (575) 956-1272 for more information.
