Silver City’s Territorial Charter Day
Celebrate Silver City's Territorial Charter Day 9 am to 5 pm with a charter signing re-enactment at Silver City Museum with current and local officials in period costumes. Also planned at various locations are a 5K fun run, a historic tour, period actors and tours at Ft. Bayard, and mining activities.

Silver City is the only New Mexico community still operating under its original territorial charter. Come celebrate the anniversary of this historic 1878 document on February 17, 2018.

Scheduled events and highlights:

8:30 - 10:30 am, Hike Boston Hill, Contact Sylveen at Royal Scepter, 538-9001 for meeting location

9 am – 4 pm Tours at Historic Ft. Bayard and people in period dress

9 am - Urban Challenge Run, sign up at the Visitor Center

11 am - Children’s Run in the Big Ditch below 6th St.

11 am to 1 pm - Penny Play House
Introductions by Raul Turrieta - Square Dancers - Silver City Stompers - Marshall (Tommy Ryan) - Music

1 pm - History of mining in Grant County, talk by Virginia McLemore, Senior Economic Geologist, New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources, New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, at the Silver City Grant County Chamber of Commerce & Conference Center.

2 pm - Re-enactment at the Silver City Museum Annex featuring current and former officials in period garb followed by traditional guitar performance by Danny Cordova and performance of New Mexico song by Kenn Kepler.
