MISSION:
To provide fair, open, and responsible government to all citizens of the Town of Silver City. To enact ordinances, regulations, and policies consistent with the Laws and Statutes of the State of New Mexico.


DESCRIPTION:
The Legislative Department consists of the elected members of the governing body of the Town of Silver City, which are the Mayor and four (4) Councilors, known as the Town Council. Terms of office are two (2) years. The Council, by majority vote, appoints the Town Manager. The powers and duties of the Mayor and Council are in accordance with the Charter of the Town of Silver City and the Laws and Statutes of the State of New Mexico, including the power to declare emergencies.


GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:
To provide fair, impartial, and responsible government to the Town of Silver City. To pass ordinances and create policies which will provide for the safety, health, and welfare of the citizens, and to provide management, financial, and planning oversight to ensure the effective administration of the Town.


MEETING SCHEDULE:
The Town Council meets every second and fourth Tuesday at 6:00 pm* at the Grant County Administration Center, 1400 Highway 180 East, Silver City, New Mexico. Below is a schedule of upcoming meetings:

ADDING AN ITEM TO THE COUNCIL AGENDA
Please complete the "Request for Agenda Item" form and attach your documentation. Submit it to the Town Clerk at City Hall, 101 W. Broadway. You may fax it to 575-534-6377 or email it to tsctownclerk@qwestoffice.net.

Your request must be turned in no later than 10:00 a.m. on the Tuesday before the scheduled Council Meeting. For instance, if the Council Meeting that you would like to have an agenda item is on Tuesday, February 9th, then the "Request for Agenda Item" form must be submitted to the Town Clerk by 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 2nd. If you have any questions, please call the Town Clerk at 575-534-6346.


*Note: On July 13, 2010, the Council approved Ordinance 1167 and Resolution 2010-18, changing Council meetings from 7 pm to 6 pm.
