Online Tutoring and Career Help from Tutor.com

The Public Library of Silver City offers online tutoring and career help from Tutor.com!

What is Tutor.com?
Tutor.com provides high-quality online learning and career services to libraries nationwide. The Tutor.com Learning Suite provides access to live, online tutoring and resume help and thousands of academic and career resources.

Who can use the Tutor.com Learning Suite?
Everyone! K-12 and college students can get help with homework, studying, projects, essay writing and test prep in every subject, including algebra, statistics, chemistry, physics, social studies and English. Adults can get help with resume writing, GED prep and academic support. 

How does the online tutoring work?
All sessions are online and one-to-one. Visitors can work with an online tutor 11:00am - 11:00 pm  daily and Tutor.com Learning Suite en Espanol 2 pm - 10:00 pm daily by simply going to www.tutor.com/thepubliclibrary. From there you will be asked to enter your library card number, like this: P 55555.
   
How do you access the resources?
The SkillsCenter Resource Library is available 24/7, and users can search by keyword and subject for worksheets, lessons, videos and more at www.tutor.com/thepubliclibrary.
 
Is the service available remotely?
Yes. You can connect to the Tutor.com Learning Suite from any computer with Internet access, as well as any Internet public workstation in the library.


El Portal Online Databases from the New Mexico State Library

El Portal is a set of databases provided to anyone in New Mexico free of charge by the New Mexico State Library.  Visit them at http://elportalnm.org.  Using these databases you can search thousands of articles from journals, magazines, and newspapers along with reference e-books, corporate data, and online sources.  This is a great resource for finding articles that you can't find in print, and for research projects and school papers.

Newsbank Database of America's Newspapers and News Magazines

The library offers a direct link to the Newsbank newspaper database, which covers newspapers and news magazines from across the nation, including sixteen New Mexico newspapers.  You can get there by following this link: http://infoweb.newsbank.com/signin/ThePublicLibraryofSilverCity and signing in with your library card number (enter it like this: P 55555).  Newsbank is also accessible through El Portal.  A lot of full-text articles are available, which may not be accessible on the newspapers’ websites.
