MISSION:
To provide fair, open, and responsible government to all citizens of the Town
of Silver City. To enact ordinances, regulations, and policies consistent
with the Laws and Statutes of the State of New Mexico.
DESCRIPTION:
The Legislative Department consists of the elected members of the governing
body of the Town of Silver City, which are the Mayor and four (4) Councilors,
known as the Town Council. Terms of office are two (2) years. The Council,
by majority vote, appoints the Town Manager. The powers and duties of the
Mayor and Council are in accordance with the Charter of the Town of Silver
City and the Laws and Statutes of the State of New Mexico, including the power
to declare emergencies.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:
To provide fair, impartial, and responsible government to the Town of
Silver City. To pass ordinances and create policies which will provide for
the safety, health, and welfare of the citizens, and to provide management,
financial, and planning oversight to ensure the effective administration of
the Town.
MEETING SCHEDULE:
The Town Council meets every
second and fourth Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at the Grant County Administration
Center, 1400 Highway 180 East, Silver City, New Mexico. Below is a schedule
